About

Master Yan Zi chose the rooster as the symbol of Stage One, as the rooster rises early. In the same spirit, the student begins training at dawn, when the rooster crows. Like the rooster, the practitioner trains with discipline, focus and determined willpower, developing a deeper understanding of how strength and stamina are combined. At this stage, the teachings of the Shaolin Temple are gradually introduced. The student learns fundamental combat techniques, coordinating punches and kicks with newly introduced knee strikes. Training also includes: • Using the opponent’s force to one’s own advantage • Targeting vulnerable areas of the body • Joint manipulation techniques • Controlled bone-breaking techniques, executed with precision and restraint in accordance with Buddhist principles All techniques are practised in structured combinations, with strong emphasis on full-body co-ordination. For the first time, an ancient Shaolin combat form is introduced: Shaolin Xiao Hong Quan (Part 1). This foundational form will be studied in greater depth in later stages. During this stage, students are required to repeat the training sequence five to ten times, accumulating approximately 50 to 100 hours of structured practice within the Rooster Stage.
